Personal Development at WPS
All, our work at WPS is values-led, we have many whole school approaches that support
Work to support the Personal Development of our WPS children is always led by our values work and completed through our approach to SMSC and the teaching of our PSHCE and RSE curriculum.
At WPS we strive to prepare children for the next stage of their educational journey and for their future as responsible citizens, willing to make a positive contribution to society with an appreciation of diversity and a respect for British Values and equality. We provide a wide number of rich and varied experiences and opportunities through our curriculum to develop talents, interests and an individual resilience, independence and confidence.
The personal development curriculum at WPS is values-led and is a whole school experience: from assemblies to educational visits, from discussions to pupil-voice sessions, from life skills to extra-curricular clubs and intervention sessions. It covers the following areas: WPS values, Fundamental British Values, Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Education, Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic and Sex and Relationship Education, as well as preparing children for the next stage of their education and careers education.
Our careers programme is delivered partnerships with Positive Footprints (Y6) and Edge Hill University and children participate in a range of leadership development opportunities
We recognise that it is important that our children know how to keep themselves safe and how to care for both their mental and physical wellbeing whilst they also develop personal traits, and virtues and guide them to our students to flourish in their community and in society.

Extra Curricular Activities - we hold a range of weekly clubs and events before and after school from Sports to Reading.
Strong Sporting Ethos - We have a very strong tradition of participation in a wide range of sports activities and competitions, especially cross country running.
Awards and Achievements - Children can achieve a whole range of awards for effort, achievement, progress and demonstration of our values, follow the link to see more about our awards, from Woolton Gem to Friday Friendship and Rainbow Reader Award.
Leadership Roles - Children have the opportunity to develop confidence and independence and make a wider school contribution through taking part in different leadership opportunities, these include School Council, Values Leadership Team, Subject Ambassadors and the newer wellbeing team and playground leaders.
Community Links - We take part in local and city wide activities and events, Police Art Competitions, our WPS Choir sings at citywide events and performs with the local secondary school, Positive Footprint Events/Activities ( Y6 careers).
Charity Work - we support charity activities throughout the year these include Children in Need Day, Red Nose Day, Marie Curie Work, Bobby Colleran Trust
Equality and Diversity Work - Equality is our focus value for 2023. Children and staff have worked to establish our school definition of Equality. This is clearly displayed around school. We hold half-termly values awards assemblies to celebrate children demonstrating our value of equality and further values. Visitors to school assemblies and classes help us to develop our understanding eg: The new Race Equality Officer for Liverpool. Our values leadership team, children support younger children to develop their understanding of our school values through activities and events, We are also working to achieve School of Sanctuary Status
Visitors, trips and residential trips -Children engage with a varied range of visitors to school, as well as taking part in trips to places of interest and that support our curriculum. Our children engage with an extensive programme of visitors to school. Visitors work in classes and attend assemblies. These range from our resident storyteller to author and poet visits. To our interactive curriculum workshops e.g. History. We welcome visitors such as the Police Community Engagement Officers (work on hate crime) , Asylum Link UK, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and sports role models .
Extended opportunities - We offer many opportunities that extend our children's participation in activities and enhance their personal development. These include our whole school project writing week, curriculum weeks, British Science Week, Science Competition, Whole School Art Competitions, Walk to School Week, DT Week, Whole school Exhibition Week,( last year The Platinum Jubilee, this year Our City, Our School, Our Values) Y1 Art Exhibition, themed days, Y2 times table day, Y6 WW2 Day. We are currently working on whole school diversity project "Free to be me"
We are always seeking further opportunities to enhance the personal development of our children as our school motto says " Better Never Stops".
